_couple-renovating-cottage-discover-200-year-old-well-underneath-hallway.webp "A couple were stunned to find a secret 200-year-old well underneath their hallway when they began renovating their cottage.<br/><br/>Victoria Ellington, 36, and her husband Andrew, 40, were amazed when they discovered the 27ft hole by the front door.<br/><br/>Once explored, they found that the well, which is thought to be centuries-old, still contained crystal-clear water.<br/><br/>The couple, from Redcar, North Yorks., couldn’t bear to cover up the feature so they decided to find a way to incorporate it into building.<br/><br/>After months of hard work, Victoria and Andrew managed to install a pump to create their very own wishing well, covered by protective glass.<br/><br/>The couple now rent the beach-front property, called Bute Cottage, to holidaymakers who can enjoy the quirky water feature.<br/><br/>Mum-of-two Victoria said: “We bought the cottage during the 2020 Covid lockdown and Andrew, who is a builder, started renovating it.<br/><br/>“We were planning to add an extension and build a family home but the foundations started slipping and we knew something was up.<br/><br/>“One day Andrew found this deep hole and realised it was quite a deep well right on top of the property by the front door.<br/><br/>“He was digging at the foundations and all the soil was falling into this hole. <br/><br/>“He just sent me a photo and said: 'Oh my god, have you seen this?'<br/><br/>“We knew then that we couldn’t build an extension so Andrew just decided to make it part of the building and we could rent the cottage out.”<br/><br/>Instead of paving over the well the couple covered it with a glass walkway and lined the walls of the shaft with lights.<br/><br/>Victoria, mum to Oscar five, and Henry, nine, said: “Our sons were excited about having a wishing well so we thought we should make that a reality.<br/><br/>\")

Rick Woodbury from Spokane, Washington USA, is the president, founder and sole employee of ‘Commuter Cars.’ The carmaker’s flagship model is the 2005 super slim two-seater Tango T600, a high-performance electric car that preceded Tesla. Rick told us: “I started this company 21 years ago – it was based on an idea that I came up with in 1982.” He was inspired by the shocking traffic congestion he had to face on a daily basis. “I used to drive a Porsche from Beverly Hills to Hermosa Beach every day and the traffic was horrendous,” explained Rick. What really made Rick think about a solution was the fact that in most of the cars he would see in his commute were occupied by lone drivers. “I noticed that everybody around me was a single occupant in a car, taking up the whole lane,” Rick said. Living and working in Los Angeles also helped inspire Rick’s unique creation. “I thought, everyone wants to get from point A to point B efficiently, and in cities like Los Angeles there’s really no centre, there’s no hub, everybody goes everywhere,” explained Rick. For him, there is a simple solution, and that is reducing the width that vehicles take up on the road so that 2 can fit comfortably in a single lane. “I don’t think there’s any other answer except doubling lane capacity,” said Rick. With a length of 102 inches this micro car can be parked just about anywhere, just like you would with a motorbike. Rick said: “The length is the same width of a semi-truck so I can park perpendicular to the curb.”The selling point of this vehicle is that it can drive in-between cars better than any other car. “The coolest feature for me to that it can get through traffic faster than any car in history,” said Rick. Much like a motorbike, the Tango T500 can drive right up to the stop line of traffic lights.")

_roseburn-path-the-battle-over-whether-an-old-edinburgh-rail-line-should-become-a-tram-route.webp "Roseburn Path: The battle over whether an old Edinburgh rail line should become a tram route<br/><br/>Campaign formed to save “nature network” in public consultation that also includes Orchard Brae corridor option<br/><br/>It must be one of Scotland’s most genteel cycle paths, peppered with signs asking riders to dip their lights and be mindful of walkers.<br/><br/>The Roseburn Path in the west of Edinburgh is part of a web of off-road routes through the capital which were created from former railway lines closed 60 years ago.<br/><br/>But the prospect of the iron road returning in the form of a tram line has ignited a campaign to save what supporters cherish as a “nature network”, which is adorned this month with lush vegetation, birdsong and the scent of wild garlic.<br/><br/>The City of Edinburgh Council is to seek views on whether a planned new north-south tram route between Granton and the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and beyond should use the path or run along Orchard Brae to the east instead.<br/><br/>Council officials recommended the Roseburn option in February, but councillors decided to take a neutral stance pending the results of a public consultation later this year. The council stressed a path would be retained beside the tram line, but opponents questioned whether that would be either feasible, or attractive to users.<br/><br/>Backers of the Roseburn option argued that it will enable trams to run past the Western General, the city’s other major hospital, with reduced journey times by avoiding congested traffic corridors.<br/><br/>The route also has legislative approval from the Scottish Parliament in 2006 as part of a circular tram line, the northern half of which between Roseburn and Newhaven was later shelved.
